In an effort to promote media literacy and the publication Europa Diary the EU Delegation to Serbia has published a call for creative and innovative entries submitted by high school students.

Over the course of four months, 650 students worked hard to submit their literary, photo, video and multimedia works. The contest awarded 16 of the most creative and innovative entries out of a total of 164 submitted within the call. Four entries in each of the categories received awards submitted by students of 14 high schools in Serbia.

The students who won the literary award focused mainly on opportunities the EU provides to the youth in the area of education and sports, but also dealt with some of the contemporary societal challenges faced by any society.

Laureates of the photo award dealt with current migrant crisis and solidarity. They also addressed the issue of food security and the protection of one of the major European rivers – the Danube.

The Danube, running through seven EU countries, was also the topic of one of the multimedia works. This category focused primarily on Roma inclusion and European values upheld and cherished by local communities.

The awarded videos focused on the topic of environmental protection, peer and gender-based violence, European integration and multiculturalism in the EU and Serbia.
