Every drop tells a story: European Green Diplomacy Week 2025 kicks-off

Water is a precious gift. Without careful comprehensive conservation, planning and investments, what we take for granted today can become a serious challenge tomorrow.

This year’s Green Diplomacy Week in Serbia carries the slogan “See Water Differently” and invites citizens to reflect on every dripping tap, every river and lake, and every step in nature as an opportunity to change perspective and develop a more responsible relationship with the environment.

From 14 to 25 November 2025, all across Serbia, the European Green Diplomacy Week will be celebrated. This year will focus on water conservation and sustainable development. Water connects us all – from mountain springs and streams, through rivers and lakes, to our towns and villages – and it also connects us to one another through how we live and care for our shared environment. Every drop has purpose; every river has a memory, reminding us that protecting water is not just a technical duty, but a personal and social responsibility.

What to Expect

Belgrade offers diverse activities for all ages. Film lovers can enjoy documentaries about climate heroes and discussions on climate action, while pupils and families can participate in interactive workshops such as Nature and Society, learning about water and environmental protection through fun activities alongside an aquarium.

A special novelty is the City and Me app, which rewards citizens for sustainable habits: recycling, walking, cycling, and tree planting. Citizens can also join the tree-planting initiative in Surčin, actively contributing to a greener and healthier local community. Creatives won’t want to miss the EU4Green exhibition, showcasing the best examples of circular economy, pollution reduction, and biodiversity protection, while entrepreneurs and others can expand their knowledge in the SME Go Green workshop.

Niš combines science, art, and local activism through a variety of events and workshops. Citizens can participate in Climate Talks, a local dialogue on urban climate challenges and nature-based solutions, while others may wish to attend the Future of Food workshop, exploring innovations and strategies to reduce food waste and plan meals more sustainably. Creative spirits can join The Art of Fika workshop, inspired by Swedish tradition – in which participants explore upcycling principles through art and social interaction, transforming used materials into new, useful products.

Novi Sad and surrounding areas focus on youth and community engagement through debates and discussions on environmental protection, such as the Socratic Cafés on Environmental Protection, and through active participation in natural resource conservation. Citizens can take part in cleaning activities in Rusanda Nature Park and other protected areas, reducing waste and protecting biodiversity – a hands-on approach to help build a greener future together.

Across all cities, the program combines education, art, and hands-on activities, inviting participants to learn and act together for a healthier and more sustainable planet.

The campaign is organized by Europe Houses in Belgrade, Niš, and Novi Sad, in partnership with the “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia” project implemented by UNDP, and in cooperation with organisations and projects EU4Green, NATURED, IPA Adrion (programme), EBRD, RERI, City and Me, Discover Serbia, Coalition 27, Young Researchers, FINS, Youth Center Novi Sad and Beldocs/CineEuropa, with the shared goal of inspiring citizens, promoting sustainable habits, and encouraging active engagement for a healthier, greener future.

The project EU for Green Agenda in Serbia, with the technical and financial support of the European Union and in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, is implemented by UNDP in cooperation with Sweden and the European Investment Bank (EIB), with additional funding provided by the governments of Sweden, Switzerland and Serbia.

European Green Diplomacy Week is a global EU campaign that fosters collaboration on climate change and inspires climate action.
