On 14 October 2016 the Mayor of Ivanjica Zoran Lazović visited the reconstructed roads and landslides at two locations in this municipality, which is one of 23 local self-governments where the Project “European Union Support for the Reconstruction of the Road Structures Affected by the Floods in Serbia” is implemented. This Project, realised within the Programme “EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia” by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), will rehabilitate up to 48 landslides and reconstruct up to 14 bridges until the end of 2017.
Eleven landslides that appeared after the floods in May 2014 and prevented normal transportation in Boljevac, Sjenica, Knić, Kragujevac, Gornji Milanovac and Ivanjica have been remediated within the Project.
“I would like to thank the European Union and all who have contributed to the implementation of this Project which would be too demanding for our self-government”, said the Mayor of Ivanjica, Zoran Lazović. “The Municipality of Ivanjica will undertake all the necessary activities and measures in order to continue excellent cooperation with the UNOPS and other institutions that implemented the Project, which is of strategic importance for our municipality”, Lazović concluded.
The reconstruction within the Project worth 10.49 million Euros began in June 2016 is currently implemented on 28 landslides in nine municipalities. Nine bridges in seven municipalities are also being rehabilitated to ensure safe traffic for the local population and other beneficiaries of transport network.
“This project will give a significant contribution to building safe roads in the Republic of Serbia. We also insist on meeting the engineering standards and overall safety and quality of the performed works, all being important preconditions for participating in the European Union financed projects”, said Milan Mandić, the Project Engineer.
The remediation of the remaining landslides and rehabilitation of bridges should commence by the end of the year, pending the permits issuance and weather conditions.
The project, implemented in partnership with Government of the Republic of Serbia Office for Public Investment Management (PIMO), Public Enterprise Roads of Serbia (PERS), the Delegation of the European Union (DEU) and local self-governments, lasts until December 2018.
