Consumer protection and product safety are among fundamental values fostered by the EU, said today Radica Nusdorfer of the EU Delegation to Serbia during the closing ceremony of the project Strengthening Capacity of the National Quality Infrastructure and Conformity Assessment services.
Making sure that all economic actors are aware of their obligations in the area of product safety is crucial, Nusdorfer said at the ceremony hosted by the Embassy of Czech Republic.
She said that EU and Serbia would continue cooperation in that field, with a focus on SMEs.
Czech Ambassador Ivana Hlavsova said that the EU had allocated a million euros from IPA funds with a view to strengthening Serbian institutions in charge of product quality control.
Hlavsova said that relevant Czech institutions had assisted Serbia in meeting the necessary quality control standards.
The ceremony was also attended by Assistant Minister of European Integration Ksenija Milenkovic and Acting Assistant Minister of Economy Aleksandar Starcevic.
Milenkovic said that Serbia was getting ready to open negotiating chapter 1, dealing with free movement of goods.
Starcevic said that one of Serbia’s strategic goals was to integrate its economy into the EU single market.
