Belgrade, 22nd March 2018 – EU Ambassador HE Sem Fabrizi had an inaugural meeting with the representatives of all the 21 National Minority Councils of Serbia at the EU Delegation. This introductory meeting was aimed at exchanging views on the respect for and protection of minority rights.

EU Ambassador Sem Fabrizi highlighted that respect of the minorities rights is a core value of the European Union. The occasion to meet the representatives of the Serbian national minorities gave a valuable overview of the current situation, also in the context of Serbia’s accession to the EU. This was also opportunity to encourage all National Minority Councils to actively participate in the implementation of the Action Plan for Realisation of National Minority Rights, as an important element to enhance the position of the of national minorities

Representative of national minorities expressed a range of views and shared common position on many issues. Ambassador Fabrizi encouraged the representatives of the national minorities  to working together to implement the Action Plan and to jointly find points of convergence.
