Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia joined the ceremony on the occasion of launching the 2019 European Youth Capital in Novi Sad.

The event was inaugurated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic who called on the youth to take part in solving problems, saying that if there are challenges anywhere in the region, it is in Serbia.

President Vucic noted that he has seen energy and hope among young people and asked them to remain “persistent and creative.”

He said that it is an honour to have Novi Sad carry the title of European Youth Capital, but also a reminder that the young should be advised about the future of Serbia. Nothing, not even politics, slogans and marketing can rely on mere words, but on deeds, Vucic told the young, noting that any issue and problem can be resolved by accepting a challenge “without excuses.”

The ceremony, held at the Synagogue of Novi Sad, was also attended by Speaker of the National Assembly Maja Gojkovic, ministers Vanja Udovicic, Zoran Djordjevic and Mladen Sarcevic, Mayor of Novi Sad Sada Milos Vucevic and members of the diplomatic corps in Serbia. Novi Sad will be carrying the title of European Youth Capital throughout 2019 and is the first city outside the EU to have the honour.
