Organisation for Respect and Care of Animals – ORCA has been selected among other European organisations, by the European Union as a member of the advisory body for animal welfare within the European Commission – European Commission Expert Group Platform on Animal Welfare (https://ec.europa.eu/food/animals/welfare/eu-platform-animal-welfare/members_en).

The European Commission established the Platform on 24 January 2017 to coordinate activities related to animal welfare, focusing on improved enforcement of EU rules.

Members to the Platform are selected on the basis of experience and competences, especially in the area of farm animals and food safety, reads a statement released by ORCA.

Members of the advisory are experts and representatives of national authorities from EU Member States, Iceland, Luxembourg and Norway, as well as international organizations: the World Bank, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

We can consider ORCA’s election to the animal welfare Platform as one of the greatest acknowledgments of our work in the area of animal welfare in the territory of Serbia, reads the statement.

ORCA is a non-profit civil society organisation working to improve policy, legislation and practice related to animal welfare, environmental protection and rural development in Serbia and the Balkans, through research, education and advocacy and monitoring.

ORCA was founded by the group of students and professors of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Belgrade University and today is one of the most renowned civil society organisations in Serbia.
