To mark Europe Day, the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia is organizing a caravan across six cities in Serbia, featuring the interactive exhibition “Innovation on the Move”. The exhibition is open to the public and intended for all generations. The citizens of Čačak had the opportunity to experience virtual reality on Monday 19th May, explore the exhibition, and learn interesting facts at the Startup Center in the city.

The interactive exhibition “Innovation on the Move” consists of two parts: a presentation of CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) and a VR corner.

The exhibition about CERN was created by the Center for the Promotion of Science, and it was young scientists and associates from the Center who guided visitors through the interactive experience, offering them various interesting insights. The local partner is the Science Club of the Center for Professional Development in Čačak.

The CERN display deals with matter and energy, explores the origin of the universe, reveals how the world’s largest machine—the Large Hadron Collider—works, and explains the role of the Higgs boson. A special focus of the exhibition is on Serbian scientists and their role in major experiments. Among the 12 founding countries of CERN was Yugoslavia, and the Founding Act of CERN from 1954 includes the signature of Serbian scientist Pavle Savić.

The most widespread internet service—the World Wide Web (www)—was created and developed by CERN scientists. Initially intended to enable researchers worldwide to exchange information, the web later became a crucial and indispensable part of everyday life for people around the globe.

The youngest visitors particularly enjoyed the virtual reality corner, realized in cooperation with a multi-award-winning VR/XR producer from Estonia. Visitors experienced virtual reality and witnessed a fascinating blend of science, art, and storytelling. Deep space, prehistoric caves, volcanoes, particle physics, and children’s dreams were just some of the themes presented in the VR films. Two short CERN films were shown, along with four European science films and two animated videos for children.

Associates from the Center for the Promotion of Science also held workshops for students, during which they explained what the universe is made of and what remains invisible within it.

The “Innovation on the Move” caravan, marking Europe Day, will continue its journey through Serbia. By the end of the month, it will visit: Kragujevac on May 23 at the Đura Jakšić Gallery, Pančevo on May 26 at the Gallery of Contemporary Art, Niš on May 27 and 28 at the Niš Science and Technology Park (NTP Niš), Novi Pazar on May 29 and 30 at the Cultural Center.
