The most inspiring green stories from the region will be on display in Belgrade starting today.

The EU4Green photo exhibition The Greenest Examples of the Western Balkans” has opened at the European House, showcasing the relationship between people and nature across the region through the lenses of amateur photographers.

The exhibition features 15 photo stories from across the Western Balkans and is part of the European Green Diplomacy Week. Amateur photographers capture the power of local initiatives, the beauty of nature, and the environmental challenges the region faces.

At the official opening, the award for the competition winner was presented to Marko Dimić from Serbia. His submission highlights the natural beauty of Labudovo okno — a protected area in the Deliblato Sands along the Danube — as well as the threat to its habitats caused by the waste found there.

The prize includes a study visit to Austria, where Marko will be hosted by the Austrian Environment Agency, one of Europe’s most respected institutions in the field of environmental protection.

“I hope these photographs will inspire someone, give ideas on how we can change and raise collective awareness, so that our country is beautiful not just in words, but in deeds — clean and orderly,” Dimić said.

The exhibition was officially opened by Plamena Halačeva, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, and Stefanie Müller, Deputy Ambassador of Austria.

“This exhibition is more than a collection of beautiful photographs. It is a reminder that change begins with individuals. Each story in these photographs reflects dedication, creativity, and the courage to protect nature and improve the environment we live in,” Halačeva said, adding that these works show that the green transition is not an abstract concept, but something happening every day in our communities.

Stefanie Müller, Deputy Ambassador of Austria, said that Austria is making significant efforts to implement the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

“Environmental protection is not only a political priority, but also a shared responsibility that requires coordinated action across the region. Environmental challenges know no borders, and only through joint efforts can we achieve progress,” Müller stated.

After being presented in Podgorica, Tirana, Pristina, and Skopje, the exhibition will be on display in Belgrade until November 24, before concluding its regional tour in Sarajevo.

The photo exhibition is organized by the EU4Green project, funded by the European Union and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) through International Partnerships Austria, and implemented by the Austrian Environment Agency. EU4Green continues to strengthen regional cooperation and promote sustainable development through art and visual storytelling that raises awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
