Federica Mogherini met with Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanović:

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of European Commission, met today with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milo Djukanović. They discussed the political situation in the country as well as security developments in the region.

Focusing on foreign policy, HRVP Mogherini welcomed Montenegro’s role as a reliable actor for the European Union. She expressed the EU’s appreciation for the country’s full alignment with all of the EU’s foreign policy positions and encouraged the Prime Minister to maintain these efforts. Montenegro’s NATO accession will further contribute to the stability in the region.

HRVP Mogherini and Prime Minister Djukanovic discussed the political dialogue between government and opposition in Montenegro and agreed that the European integration process is a joint responsibility of all political forces in the country and requires sustained focused efforts, including on the rule of law.

In their discussion about the general elections that are to take place later this year, Prime Minister Djukanovic talked about the steps taken to ensure credible elections in line with the 2014 legislative framework, which the EU is following closely.
