The EU Commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response Kristalina Georgieva has arrived in Belgrade on Tuesday to visit the flooded areas, and talk to Serbian officials about further steps and priorities regarding the EU assistance available to Serbia.
Following the meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić on Tuesday, the day after Georgieva will visit Obrenovac to personally assess the flooded area. She will than visit the EU Civil Protection Teams from Czech Republic, Germany, and France that are engaged in protecting Kostolac thermal power plant from floods.
“The European Union is actively engaged in responding to the needs of flood-affected citizens in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. I’m proud to say that within hours of receiving requests for assistance for both countries 15 of our Member States – that is more than half of the European Union – have offered help in a variety of ways,” said Georgieva prior to the arrival.
“We will keep supporting our neighbours for as long as they need our help!,” Commissioner added.
