The EU Ambassador to Serbia, Andreas von Beckerath, visited Novi Sad on November 26, as part of his first official visit.

During his stay in Novi Sad, he held a series of official meetings and engagements involving representatives of provincial and city institutions, civil society, and the media.

The visit began with the laying of flowers at the railway station and paying respects to those who lost their lives in the 1 November 2024 accident.

Afterwards, Ambassador von Beckerath held a meeting with the President of the Provincial Government, Maja Gojković, while a reception with the Mayor of Novi Sad, Žarko Mićin, was organised at City Hall. The programme continued with a meeting with Dina Vučinić, President of the City Assembly.

Members of the EU Delegation, led by Ambassador von Beckerath, also held a meeting with representatives of opposition parties.

In the afternoon, a visit to the OPENS Youth Centre was organised, where a meeting was held with several civil society organisations. Representatives of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina, the Association of Architects of Vojvodina, and OPENS discussed with the Ambassador and members of the EU Delegation the challenges they face – from the position of NGOs, journalists, and media pressures to urban planning issues and youth participation.

This was followed by a visit to the French Institute, an interview for Radio 021, and the day concluded with a tour of the Europe House Novi Sad project, which is soon expected to become a venue for the promotion of European values and for providing information to citizens.

The visit was marked by dialogue with institutions, the professional public, and the civil sector, focusing on openness, cooperation, and the exchange of experiences.
