EU High Representative Catherine Ashton thanked Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci for “statesmanship” he had shown in the Pristina/Belgrade agreement, expressing a hope that the dialogue would restart as soon as possible.
“I am absolutely delighted, Prime-Minister Thaçi, that you were able to make the journey to Brussels – for you and I to think about the past and talk about the future. And for me to have the opportunity to say thank you for the incredible statesmanship that you have shown in the Pristina/Belgrade agreement,” Ashton said after meeting Thaci at the end of her mandate.
Kosovo is facing a very challenging time as it should form a new government Ashton said.
“We are watching with interest and we wish all those engaged in this process very well. Whatever happens, we hope that the dialogue will continue and will restart as soon as possible. Much has been done, but I am the first to say there is much more to do,” she said.
“And I hope that the dialogue will grow and grow and we will see the outcome in peace and security for the people, and ultimately for the people of this area to become people of the European Union,” she said.
