The Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Ambassador Michael Davenport will visit Niš on March 25, 2014, where he will sign the Memorandum of Understanding about the establishment of EU Info Point. He will also attend the management committee meeting which marks the completion of the the European Partnership with Municipalities Programme – EU PROGRES, the programme through which the EU invested €14,1 million.

Ambassador Davenport will start his visit to Niš by meeting the Mayor of Niš Zoran Perišić, with whom he will sign the Memorandum of Understanding about the establishment of EU Info Point in Niš City Hall at 11 am. The Ambassador will then visit the future EU Info Point office space, located in the Niš Youth Office.

EU Info Point is part of the the EU Delegation’s communications activities, aimed at improving the knowledge about the European Union through direct contact with citizens of Niš, as well as with its visitors, relying on active support from the city authorities.

Those living in or visiting Niš will be informed about the issues related to the functioning of the EU, as well as the issues related to the cooperation between Serbia and EU Member States.

Over the course of 2014 the EU Delegation to Serbia will open an EU Info Point in Novi Sad as well.

Ambassador Davenport will also attend the 14th meeting of management committee marking the completion of the the European Partnership with Municipalities Programme – EU PROGRES. On this occasion, the Ambassador will visit the exhibition dedicated to EU PROGRES’ achievements, held in the lobby of Grand Hotel.

The European Partnership with Municipalities Programme – EU PROGRES is a development programme which includes 25 municipalities in the South and South West of Serbia. The programme is aimed at improving the living conditions and creating sound investment environment that would promote citizens’ prosperity.

The activities are structured around four components: (1) good governance, (2) municipal management and development planning, (3) social, economic and environment infrastructure, and (4) public awareness and branding of the South and South West Serbia.

Main goal of the programme is to support the socio-economic development and stabilisation of   the South and South West Serbia.

Since July 2010, the EU has financially supported the The European Partnership with Municipalities Programme – EU PROGRES with €14,1 million, through the EU Delegation to Serbia.

During his visit to Niš, Ambassador Davenport will also meet representatives of the civil society organisations.
