Following the meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington EU High Representative Catherine Ashton underlined the need of stabilisation of Ukraine and urged all parties to live up to the Geneva accord.

Ashton stressed the “importance of free and fair presidential elections in Ukraine” and warned that any further steps that destabilise the situation in the country would lead “to additional and far-reaching consequences.”

The High Representative expressed concern over actions by armed separatist groups and said that “we want to see Russia join in the call to see an immediate end to these actions.”

Apart from Ukraine, Ashton and Kerry also discussed the escalation of violence in South Sudan and expressed concern over the abducted school girls in Nigeria.
