The Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and National Geographic Serbia are launching a photo contest for the best socially engaged photograph taken in Serbia, entitled “Human in Focus”. The photographs should be submitted electronically to takmicenje@euinfo.rs in the period from 1 September to 20 October 2020.

The subject of the contest is socially engaged photography in Serbia. During this challenging time brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in social isolation, the concern for people’s own health and for the health of their loved ones, as well as the economic uncertainty that has affected all citizens of Serbia, we invite you to submit the photographs taken in your immediate vicinity, your isolation or quarantine journals, everyday life photos taken during this period, etc.

The contest is open to:

– all adult citizens residing in Serbia;

– projects in the sector of culture, democracy, human rights, and social inclusion, that is to projects dealing with social issues, supported by the European Union in Serbia.

The judges will select three best photographs, and their authors will receive vouchers for photography equipment worth:

  • first prize – EUR1000;
  • second prize – EUR500;
  • third prize – EUR300.

The jury will also award the Special Jury Award for the best photograph submitted by an EU project in Serbia.

The judges will choose 15 best photographs (including the three prize-winning photographs), as well as the best five photographs by the authors working on EU projects, to be published in both printed and electronic publications of the EU Info Centre, as well as on the web pages and social media accounts of the EU Delegation to Serbia. The winning photograph will also get published in the Serbian edition of the National Geographic Magazine. The exhibition featuring the best photos will be mounted either in 2020 or 2021, depending on the public health situation and in line with measures and regulations concerning the gathering of people in public places during the pandemic.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a professional camera! Our jury will consider photos taken with mobile phones as well.

The photos will be evaluated by the five-member jury:

  • Marko Đurica, Reuters photojournalist and author of The Balkan Route photo exhibition;
  • Aleksandar Kelić, assistant professor, Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade;
  • Igor Rill, editor, National Geographic Serbia;
  • David Pujado, Belgrade Photo Month;
  • Daliborka Nikolić, Communications Officer, EU Info Centre.

Photographs submitted after the stated deadline will not be taken into consideration.
