Deputy Prime Minister of the Serbian Government and Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic met today with the HEad of the EU Delegation to Serbia Sem Fabrizi, who congratulated her on her new appointment.
Gojkovic and Fabrizi talked about planned activites for the upcoming period in the areas of culture and information.
Gojkovic and Fabrizi discussed improvement of the media space, as well as upcoming activities on the implementation of the Action Plan for Implementation of the Media Strategy, and in that context Gojkovic pointed to the need for amendment of several laws in different areas.
Gojkovic informed Fabrizi about activities initiated by the working groups for safety and protection of journalists, as well as those regarding implementation of the Media Strategy.
Ambassador Fabrizi expressed appreciation that the Media Strategy Action Plan was adopted and underlined that the most demanding work is yet to come in its implementation phase. Ambassador welcomed that the Working Group on implementation has already been formed and encouraged the government continue to work in an inclusive and constructive manner, as was the case with the Action Plan development. Fabrizi stressed that safety and security of journalists is one of the most pressing issues that requires efficient and specific attention of all levels of the Serbian authorities and institutions at the different levels.
They also discussed joint projects in culture, such as investment in the cultural infrastructure, particularly in the area of protection of cultural heritage, in which the EU significantly invests.
Gojkovic also presented measures taken to help the culture overcome consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as plans in the area of culture in the next year, indicating an increase of funds foreseen in this area in the budget for 2021.
