Serbia has made a strategic choice in the beginning of membership negotiations with the EU and made concrete steps towards it, so such commitment will be recognised on 8 October within the annual Progress Report, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport told the Belgrade Security Forum. Also on 8 October, under its new Enlargement Strategy, European Union will reaffirm its commitment of granting membership status to the countries from this region, said Davenport.

According to him, the EU will retain its active approach when it comes to enlargement into the countries of Western Balkans.

He referred to the survey conducted by German Marshall Fund of the United States on stances of citizens of the EU, the USA, Russia and Turkey about global issues of security, economy and foreign policy, which shows that EU citizens consider democracy and freedom of movement, apart from being the values achieved by the EU, to be the basis of economic progress.
