Head of the Delegation of European Union Michael Davenport will participate in Pride Parade on Sunday 28 September, thus expressing EU’s support to freedom of assembly and diversity in Serbia.

Davenport commended the support shown by representatives of Serbian Government, saying that it was “highly important to protect individuals willing to freely express their opinion and their diversity. I am glad that Government is aware of its obligations.”

In the letter addressed to Pride organisers and Serbian LGBTI community in May 2014, Davenport said that “as has been the case in the past, EU will continue to offer its support to the principle that it is a universal right, including for the LGBTI community, to exercise freedom of assembly in a peaceful way.”

“This right should of course be secured in accordance with the Serbian Constitution, as confirmed by the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Serbia on previous bans of the parade. I fully understand the significance of the event which you are planning, especially for the visibility of the LGBTI community in Serbia,” Davenport said at the time.
