Head of the Delegation of European Union to Serbia Michael Davenport was awarded the highest municipal recognition – Ljubostinja Rosette – on the occasion of Day of the Municipality of Trstenik. He was awarded this prestigious recognition for an outstanding contribution in coordination of organisations engaged in providing assistance to the Municipality of Trstenik after May floods.

At the ceremony, the award was presented to Davenport by the Mayor of the Municipality of Trstenik Miroslav Aleksic.
He stressed that only 10 days after the devastating floods, the life in Municipality regained its normal course thanks to assistance that began flowing from all directions, with the biggest assistance coming from EU’s organisations.

Davenport expressed his satisfaction for being honoured and given the highest municipal recognition, and commended the citizens for taking joint efforts to save Trstenik and prevent the worst of consequences.

I am glad that our contribution after May floods has been recognised, but at the same time, I regret that it was the disaster that brought us together. Now, the European Union put a focus on reconstruction of private homes and public institutions, but also on assisting individual agricultural households to restore their crops, Davenport said.

According to him, European Union will invest slightly over half a million euros in removal of flood consequences in Trstenik.
