The Head of EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport hailed Serbian Parliament’s decision to back military and police participation in international missions, including several led by European union, saying the EU and Serbia were stepping up cooperation in peacekeeping missions worldwide.

“It is excellent news that the Serbian Parliament today adopted a decision on future Serbian participation in the European Union mission in Mali,” Davenport said.

“Importantly, the Serbian Parliament also agreed to continuing Serbian participation in the EU mission in Somalia and EUNAVFOR ATALANTA. The EU and Serbia are stepping up co-operation in peacekeeping missions around the world,” he said.

Serbian lawmakers adopted the decision and the plan of military and police participation in international missions, including  continued participation in EUTM Somalia, EUNAVFOR ATALANTA and for the first time this year in EUTM Mali on the need basis.

Police participation in EU missions is envisaged with two police officers in a EU operation, pending the EU invitation and Ministry of Interior’s capacities.
