Because of the voters’ decision to support the proposal for limited migration and denying the right for freedom of movement to Croatian workers, Swiss students will not be able to use advantages of the Erasmus exchange programme.
BRUSSELS, February 2014(FoNet) – Swiss students will not be able to use the advantages of the popular Erasmus exchange programme, because Swiss Authorities refused to allow the freedom of movement to Croatian workers, once voters supported the proposal for limited migration.
It is clear now that Swiss students will not participate in Erasmus programme this fall, said European Commission spokesman Olivier Bailly.
On February 9th, most of the Swiss voters supported the plan on limiting the migration of foreigners from any country, including the citizens of European Union, the decision that directly violates the agreements between Switzerland and EU.
Swiss Government still did not make an announcement on what the implementation of the decision will look like, but it refused allowing freedom of movement to workers from Croatia, which entered the EU in July.
Bailly said that closing Erasmus programme for Swiss students is a reaction to limitations imposed upon the citizens of Croatia, the AP reported.
