The students of the Karađorđe Primary School in Velika Plana will start the new school year in the renovated school in September thanks to the funds of over 110,000 Euros that have been earmarked by the European Union through the EU PRO Development Program.

The reconstruction of the school building, which involves the replacement of carpentry, installation of a new floor and thermal insulation of the facade, will be carried out in accordance with the principles of energy efficiency, which will reduce energy consumption, heating costs and the level of pollution in the municipality.

“The most important thing is that our 230 students, as well as the employees in the central school building, will have better conditions for learning and work,” said the director of the Karadjordje Elementary School, Alexander Skachkov, noting that there are eight other regional schools in the school, which are attended by a total of 550 students.

As the director says, the school has a long tradition – it is one of 100 schools established in Serbia in 1904 to mark the centenary of the First Serbian Uprising, in 1968 it was expanded and a sports hall was added to it in 1972.

“The Municipality of Velika Plana, with the support of the European Union and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, is working on the renovation of all school facilities in the territory of the municipality, which will be energy efficient after the renovation, with the aim of ensuring that the students in Velika Plana have a level playing field in urban and rural areas,” is Igor Matkovic, Mayor of Velika Plana Municipality, which financially participates in the implementation of the project with about 20 percent of the total value of the works, or 24,425 euros.

Particular attention will be paid to activities related to the implementation of good governance principles that will regulate the use of energy savings through improved energy efficiency. These activities are carried out in partnership with the Swiss PRO program supported by the Government of Switzerland.

The Energy Efficiency Improvement Project at Karađorđe Primary School in Velika Plana is funded by the European Union in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Serbia through the EU PRO program.
