Three Cs” – Clean, Competitive and Circular – this is the main topic of the EU Green Week 2025, which starts tomorrow and will focus on circular economy and sustainable solutions in environmental protection.
The Delegation of the European Union to Serbia is proud to once again participate in celebrating this important initiative, bringing together communities, partners, and institutions across the country in a shared commitment to environmental sustainability, green innovation, and circular practices. This year’s Green Week will be held from 3 to 10 June. The theme of this year’s campaign is underlining the essential role of circularity in Europe’s economic transformation.
EU Green Week, now in its 25th year and organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, is the EU’s flagship awareness-raising initiative on environmental policy. The 2025 edition explores how circular economy principles can help reduce waste, foster innovation, and enhance Europe’s strategic autonomy in an increasingly resource-constrained world.
Competitiveness is at the heart of the EU’s agenda. With its potential to drive sustainable competitiveness, reduce waste, increase strategic autonomy and promote innovation, a circular economy offers solutions to some of Europe’s most pressing challenges.
In Serbia, the EU Delegation is marking Green Week through a vibrant calendar of events in Belgrade, Niš and Novi Sad, co-organised with local and national partners. The programme aims to engage citizens of all ages through interactive workshops, public debates, educational exhibitions, and community actions focused on biodiversity, recycling, sustainable transport, and youth activism.
Among the highlights:
• 5 June – “World Environment Day” Conference (Belgrade) – Featuring panels on plastic pollution, EU circular economy policies, and opportunities for Serbia in the green transition.
• 6 June – “Noć sova” (Night of the Owls) in Niš Fortress– A family-oriented event with birdwatching, workshops on biodiversity, and environmental education for children.
• 6 June – Public Cycling Tour along EuroVelo 6 – Promoting green mobility through a group ride, bike repair station, and community talks along an important European bike route.

“EU Green Week is not only a celebration of environmental protection – it is a call to action. A cleaner, more competitive, and circular economy is not a distant vision, but a necessity that starts with local initiatives. Through our partnerships and continued support, the EU is helping Serbia seize this opportunity, for the benefit of its people, nature and future generations, and is the biggest donor to Serbia in this sector”, stated EU Ambassador to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret.
The EU has invested over €582 million in grants to support environmental protection and climate action in Serbia, making it the country’s largest donor in this field. With EU Green Week, this ongoing partnership takes on a public dimension, encouraging active citizenship, creative solutions, and a sense of shared responsibility for the planet.
