Following the EU-funded reconstruction of the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade, a multimedia classroom for seminars and presentations will be opened in the former attic space of the Captain Miša’s Mansion in early September.
Roof repair works and construction of the classroom in the University of Belgrade Rectorate’s former attic space, have entered in the final phase. In the 200-square metres area a modern classroom intended for seminars and presentations, as well as a separate space for storing modern equipment will be constructed by June.
Before the construction of the classroom, funded by the European Union through EU HETIP project, roof structure has been reconstructed, an area of 400 square metres in total. Existing ceiling joists were strengthened, and conditions for interior decoration were provided by using steel frames.
Modern panoramic lift, which will lead to the future multimedia classroom, will be installed in mid-April. Completion of all the works and the beginning of uninterrupted use of the lift as well as the former attic space of the Captain Miša’s Mansion is scheduled for early September 2014.
Façade restoration and replacement of 170 windows on the Captain Miša’s Mansion, which houses the Rectorate, preceded these construction works. Since the building is under state protection, the reconstruction was monitored by the experts from the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments.
Through HETIP project, the European Union allocated around €600,000 to fund construction works on the building of the Rectorate, one of the 27 higher education institutions in Serbia included in the project aimed at reconstruction and modern teaching equipment delivery.
Since the year 2000 the EU has invested around €64 million in Serbian education sector.
