Thanks to the joint project “Opti-bike 3” between Subotica and Tompa, these border towns in Serbia and Hungary will soon gain more than five kilometres of new bicycle paths.

On the territory of Subotica, approximately four kilometres of cycling tracks and a bicycle bridge will be constructed. In comparison, partner town Tompa in Hungary will construct another 1.5 km of tracks. In addition, a “pit-stop” rest area for cyclists is planned in Hajdukovo, along with extensions to the Segedin Road in Bački Vinogradi (2.8 km) and along the Kanjiški Road in Palić (1.4 km).

The total project value amounts to €2.3 million, with €2 million funded by the European Union. The city of Subotica will receive €1.2 million for implementation, while its co-funding of around €200,000 will be fully reimbursed by the Government of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.

Work is expected to begin in three weeks, with completion scheduled for the end of August 2026.

Subotica, which already boasts around 50 kilometers of well-developed bike paths, will gain additional routes through “Opti-bike 3,” a project supported by the European Union, the Provincial Government, and the local administration. These new routes will enhance cyclist safety, promote tourism, and strengthen cross-border cooperation between Serbia and Hungary.
