Last year was great for Serbia-EU relations, said Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport at the reception attended by numerous guests and organised on the occasion of Europe Day, 9 May.
Ten years ago, 10 countries gained the EU membership. The enlargement continues, so today there are 28 Member States, and we are surely continuing this process in the future so as to include all of the countries in this region, including Serbia, said Davenport at the meeting organised by the EU Delegation to Serbia at the Museum of Yugoslav History.
We all know what needs to be done, but I would say there is no doubt about our common commitment to the goal of gaining official EU membership, said Davenport, adding that he personally as well as the EU Delegation had a role to support and help Serbia on the EU path.
He said that Serbia can be proud of what it has achieved in the European integration and that the visits of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and EU Enlargement Commissioner Štefana Füle immediately after the new Government was formed were a strong message of support to Serbia’s EU integration.
The reception was attended by the President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, Deputy PM and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić and other ministers of the Serbian Government.
A number of foreign diplomats, representatives of religious communities, Serbian Armed Forces, and guests from public and cultural spheres attended as well.
