Trg Republike in Belgrade hosted the opening of exhibition of most successful children drawings within the “Green Ideas for Our City” contest, marking the European Mobility Week aimed at reducing car use and promoting cycling and other alternative means of transport.
This year’s manifestation, organised by the Delegation of European Union to Serbia, EU Info Centre, Secretariat for Transport of the City of Belgrade and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is held under the motto “Our Streets, Our Choice.”
Head of Transport and Infrastructure Department of the EU Delegation to Serbia José Gomez Gomez said that in the framework of EMW special attention was paid to the youngest so as to raise their awareness about the necessity of environmental protection.
By expressing his gratitude to kids for participation in the competition, Gomez Gomez said the aim of the action was to promote cycling and other alternative means of transport for the sake of reducing air pollution in cities across Serbia.
Authors of best drawings were presented awards – most successful were given bicycles, whereas first runner-ups obtained roller blades or kick scooters.
All of the winners within both elementary and high school students categories obtained book vouchers as well.
Awards were also presented to three elementary school students for their papers on the subject of environmental protection.
Following the opening of exhibition, that will be on display in EU Info Centre in Dom omladine in the coming days, a bicycle ride from Trg Republike to Topcider took place, organised by UNDP.
