Today began the reconstruction of the facility housing the Bosilegrad Cultural Centre, which includes roof repair and the purchase of modern equipment. The reconstruction is funded by the EU and Swiss Government through the European PROGRES programme to the tune of EUR56,300 and the Municipality of Bosilegrad which has earmarked EUR7,000 for the project.
„The Cultural Centre Bosilegrad was founded over four decades ago and has since been the hot spot of all cultural events taking place in our Municipality as it is home to the cinema as well as musical, art, drama, poetry and the most popular folklore club. It is therefore essential to reconstruct and maintain the full functionality of the facility which is also home to the Public Library Hristo Botev, the Centre for Social Work and the newly established Radio Nova and Bosilegrad TV station,“ said the President of Bosilegrad Municipality Vladimir Zaharijev.
The Centre also hosts an art colony, theatre plays and the traditional International Folklore Festival Bosilegrad Singing and Dancing.
The reconstruction works, which should be completed in 85 days, are carried out by the Viton d.o.o from Bosilegrad which had been selected within the procurement procedure called by the Municipality of Bosilegrad.
The European Union and the Government of Switzerland will support the activities of the European PROGRESS programme, which contributes to the sustainable development of the South and South West Serbia, with a total of EUR24.46 million. Approved projects will be aimed at strengthening local administration creating a favourable environment for the development of infrastructure and economy as well as improving the implementation of social inclusion and employment policy. The programme is implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Service (UNOPS).
The municipalities included in the programme are as follows: Novi Pazar, Ivanjica, Nova Varos, Priboj, Prijepolje, Raska, Sjenica and Tutin in South West Serbia, as well as Prokuplje, Blace, Zitoradja, Kursumlija, Leskovac, Bojnik, Vlasotince, Lebane, Medvedja, Crna Trava, Vranje, Bosilegrad, Bujanovac, Vladicin Han, Presevo, Surdulica, Trgoviste, Brus, Aleksinac, Gadzin Han, Doljevac, Merosina, Svrljig, Babusnica, Bela Palanka and Knjazevac in South East Serbia.
