Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic addressed today the youth at the conference organised on the occasion of International Volunteer Day and said that he recognised their importance and role in the society because they were responsible for the nicest and most humane acts, adding they were the driving force of any society.

He reminded that, due to the great interest in volunteer camps in 2014, 2015 saw the organisation of 30 volunteer camps through which young people expressed their commitment to acquire communication skills, engage in team work, take initiative and showed their ability to make decisions, but also their commitment to protect the environment and their own community, Ministry of Youth and Sports said in the statement.

Some 400 volunteers took part in this year’s camps, with half of them hailing from 25 different countries.

I am happy to that the love of volunteering bring volunteers together in our country, said Udovicic.

This year’s celebration of International Volunteer Day was organised within the Young Explorers of Serbia Conference “Volunteering for Social Transformation”, which gathered 50 representatives of organisations which took part in this year’s edition of the programme “Mladi su zakon”.

International Volunteer Day has been celebrated worldwide since 1985. Ministry of Youth and Sports has been celebrating it since 2010 when it launched the “Mladi su zakon” programme.
