One of the most important results of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is building of mutual trust, the Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said, adding that it was of great importance that new Serbian PM Aleksandar Vučić showed readiness to continue the dialogue in Brussels leading it himself.

Following 24 rounds of the dialogue and a total amount of 260 hours of talks, a level of mutual trust of both Belgrade and Pristina has increased, as well as the willingness of both sides to find solutions to problems they are facing, said Davenport at the Serbia – Kosovo: Potential for Cooperation conference.

He said there was no doubt EU’s technical assistance to the dialogue process has been of utmost importance.

“I believe it is important to emphasise that the dialogue will be a continuous framework for further normalisation,” said Ambassador Davenport.

According to him, progress in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue also represents an incentive for Civil Societies in both Serbia and Kosovo to strengthen their cooperation.

He said that the normalisation of relations with Kosovo forms an integral part of EU accession, and that Chapter 35 is the EU’s mechanism designed to monitor the progress of Belgrade-Pristina talks.

It is very important that new Serbian Prime Minister expressed his readiness to continue the dialogue and to lead it himself, during his introductory speech in the Serbian Parliament, as well as during the meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, Davenport said.
