On the occasion of Europe Day, the EU Delegation to Serbia and EU Info Centre announce the open call for cartoon and comic strip art competition “Myths and Prejudices” – How Serbia and EU view each other.
The competition is open until April 25 to cartoonists and comic strip authors, both professional and amateur, to present their views on Serbian citizens’ prejudices about European Union, or European Union citizens’ prejudices about Serbia, in forms of cartoon or comic strip.
Competition participants can play around with public discourse or other people’s prejudices, as well as with the prejudices in the media. The only limitations are legally binding standards and the prohibition of hate speech.
Winners of the competition will be announced on April 28 and they will be presented with the awards at the opening of the selected works exhibition on the occasion of Europe Day. The exhibition will run May 8-11 in Knez Mihailova Street, as well as May 9-18 in the StadionShopping Centre in Belgrade. The works will also be exhibited in Novi Sad and Niš in early June.
The decision will be made by jury consisting of famous Serbian cartoonists and comic strip artists – Predrag Koraksić Corax, Marko Somborac and Aleksandar Zograf, together with the representatives of the EU Delegation, EU Info Centre and Serbian European Integration Office.
The jury will choose the three winners, as well as the 14 works that will be exhibited.
First prize is a EUR500 shopping voucher that can be used in Gigatron shops. Second and third prize are EUR350 and EUR250 shopping vouchers, valid in Gigatron shops as well. All of the artists whose works are selected for the exhibition will receive appropriate prizes. EU Member States have also confirmed they would provide gifts for all of the finalists.
As an event within the celebration of Europe Day, the exhibition will be opened in Belgrade on May 8 by Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Ambassador Michael Davenport.
