Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Ambassador Michael Davenport signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of EU Info Point with the Mayor of Novi Sad Milos Vucevic.
By signing the Memorandum, the city authorities of Novi Sad contribute to the acceleration of EU integration process, Davenport said, underlying that Memorandum is about equal partnership. He also thanked for the space intended for EU Info Point that was provided by the city authorities.
„We eagerly await the EU Info Point to open its door to visitors this year. Novi Sad will therefore join the exclusive club of European cities that offer free information about European Union to citizens and guests,” said Davenport.
„Precisely two months ago we started accession negotiations in Brussels. In a few years, citizens of Serbia will be making a decision in a referendum on joining the EU. They will certainly want to know what does the membership in the European Union mean, what’s in it for us and our children, but also what is it that we can offer to European Union. Info Point will help citizens find the answers to these questions in order to have enough information to make a decision themselves someday,” Ambassador Davenport said.
Info Point is going to establish a close cooperation with city authorities, civil society and media in Novi Sad.
„I truly hope that Info Point will represent a positive change that empowers a dream of creating prosperous and secure Serbia within the European community of nations,” said Davenport who, after signing the Memorandum, visited the EXCHANGE 3 project funded by European Union in GIS Centre.
During his visit, Head of the EU Delegation was to take part in a Panel discussion “Serbia and the EU after the beginning of negotiation – new phase in European integration process”.
