Head of EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said that a common Declaration and recommendations were expected to be adopted at Luxembourg Conference on migrant crisis.

He told press in Belgrade that EU ministers of home and foreign affairs would take part in Luxembourg Conference, along with representatives of countries along the transit route, such as Serbia, which, as he pointed out, took active part in preparations for the Conference.

Asked whether EU principles and values were destroyed by the refugee crisis, Davenport said that they were “cornerstones” that could not be destroyed by “making one move or another.”

“Responding to major challenges posed by refugee crisis by closing borders and erecting walls is not a solution,” Davenport said. He also said that Serbia was efficient in dealing with the crisis.

Asked by press whether the treatment of refugees could be used to speed up EU accession negotiations, Ambassador said that Serbia was on the right track regarding European integration and that opening of first chapters was expected by the end of this year.
