Members of the Committee on EU enlargement and countries in the process of accession of the Council of European Union (COELA) are visiting Serbia for the first time from 10-12 September at the proposal of Italy as the EU presiding country that puts a high priority on the enlargement of the EU and Balkans’ European integration, as well as bringing the European Union closer to citizens.

“Goal of the first COELA visit to Belgrade is to bring the European Union to Serbia and offer a direct dialogue with all EU Member States’ representatives dealing with the enlargement and Serbia’s accession negotiations,” Italian Embassy said in a statement.

Delegation will meet with President of the Republic, ministers of internal and foreign affairs, justice, finance, European integration, Head of the negotiating team for accession to the EU and the Director of Office for Kosovo.

European diplomats will also meet with National Assembly top officials, representatives of the European integration office, as well as with a group of NGO representatives.

Following the visit, the delegation will tour cultural monuments in Belgrade, Sremski Karlovci and Novi Sad at the initiative of National tourism organisation of Serbia.

During their regular discussions, COELA, currently presided by an Italian diplomat and consisting of 28 EU Member States’ representatives, prepare the Council of the EU decisions relevant to the enlargement which, by all means, include decisions on accession of the Republic of Serbia to the EU.
