In order to respond to the challenge of migration, the joint work of everyone is needed, and the European Union is ready to support Sebia in the coming period as well, said the Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, after visiting the Asylum Center in Obrenovac.
Together with the EU ambassador to Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, Schinas spoke with Serbian Commissioner for Refugees and Migrations Nataša Stanisavljević and said that the European Union will continue to provide support to Serbia in migration management.
“No one can respond to the challenges of migration alone. It is necessary that we all work together. Thanks to the support of the EU, we see that the centers in Serbia are well equipped and I am surprised by what I saw here in Obrenovac,” said Schinas.
He pointed out that the European Union is part of the solution and that it helps 14 migrant centers in Serbia, which are equipped using funds received from the Union.
“It’s not by chance that I’m starting my visit here, because the problem of migration is best seen on the ground,” Schinas told reporters after the tour of the Center, adding that the picture he saw was excellent.
The Asylum Center in Obrenovac was partially reconstructed with the funds of the European Union through a project worth 3.2 million EUR in 2019 and 2020.
Four accommodation facilities, a kitchen, two heating substations, video surveillance rooms and infrastructure were renovated.
VP Schinas’ visit to Belgrade is part of his Balkan tour, and tomorrow he will meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić.
