The European Union Civil Protection Team is continuing to assist the Serbian authorities, and Interior Ministry (Sector for Emergency Management) International department. The team is working very closely with colleagues in the Interior Ministry Sector for Emergency Management and UN.

Part of the EU team is continuing to carry out assessments in flood-affected areas, working in Krupanj today assessing the situation and immediate needs. The EU has over 13 high capacity pumps, 6 flood rescue teams with boats, and rescue helicopter operating in Serbia in addition to the coordination team.

The Sector of Emergency Management has requested that the EU teams focus on the urgent task of pumping operations in Kostloac to protect the power plants. There is also a pumping team operating in Obrenovac protecting the Thermal Power Nikola Tesla. These are critical pumping operations to ensure the electricity supply in major parts of Serbia is not lost.

The EU assistance is expected to remain in Serbia for the foreseeable future, and we are  ready to response to any further requests of assistance from the Interior Ministry.

The EU is also strengthening its assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The second EU Civil Protection team is now established in Sarajevo and is supporting the relief efforts.
