The European Union expects Serbia to conduct all reform action plans, said Ambassador Michael Davenport after the meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić.
Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport met with the President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić on Friday. The EU and Serbia enjoy excellent relations, and ever since the accession negotiations opened January 21, the quality of these relations improved, while the level of their intensity upgraded, Davenport stressed.
As a proof, he cited the findings of recent public opinion research, that showed that 55% of Serbian citizens support the EU membership.
“It’s very positive that technical government held two rounds of talks with Pristina,” Davenport underlined, adding that after the new government is formed, the EU expects Serbia to implement all of the strategies and reform action plans.
Commenting the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, the President Nikolić said the continuation of the talks requires a new institutional framework.
“Having in mind the unacceptable fact that Kosovo formed its own army, which signed an army deal with Albania, the National Assembly of Serbia should adopt a new institutional framework for Belgrade-Pristina talks,” Nikolić underlined.
When it comes to the formation of the new Serbian Government, Serbian President informed the Head of the EU Delegation that he plans to talk to all the parliamentary parties’ presidents, and he emphasised that the personnel selection, as well as all the other decisions, will be completely up to new Prime Minister.
