The first EU Summit on chronic diseases begins on April 3 in Brussels. It brings together key policymakers, stakeholders and interest groups to discuss medical, social and economic benefits of sustainable investments in health, ways to reduce the burden of chronic diseases, and how to strengthen their prevention and management, with a focus on EU added value and action.
On April 3 a range of topics will be explored in thematic workshops, e.g. added value through EU action, healthy ageing strategies, health investments, and innovation in prevention.
Plenary sessions taking place on the second day, April 4, opened by Health Commissioner, Tonio Borg, who will present the Commission´s role in tackling chronic diseases, will be web streamed.
The Summit aims to develop conclusions and a set of policy recommendations for action, clarifying how the medical, social and economic burden of chronic diseases should be tackled in the EU now, and in years to come.
