The Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade has opened a photo exhibition titled “16 Male Voices Against Gender-Based Violence” at the Europe House Belgrade. The exhibition is part of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.”

Created in cooperation with the Fabrika fotografa studio and photographer Aleksandar Crnogorac, the exhibition will be on view in the European House Salon in Belgrade until 8 December 2025.

The exhibition features portraits of representatives of Swedish companies operating in Serbia, as well as prominent Swedes — including those of Serbian origin — underscoring the close ties between the two countries. The personal motivations of all 16 men for taking part in the project are presented beneath their portraits.

The EU Ambassador to Serbia, Andreas von Beckerath, is among the figures showcased in the exhibition.

“It is an honor to be part of this important exhibition, and I would like to thank the Swedish Embassy for choosing a project aimed at challenging harmful norms and inspiring younger generations to embrace equality and respect.”

He emphasized that the EU condemns digital violence and disinformation as tools of political intimidation and hybrid warfare, including those targeting female students, leaders, journalists, and human rights defenders.

“Such actions undermine women’s participation in public and political life and represent a direct attack on democracy. All forms of sexual and gender-based violence are unacceptable. We support accountability and reporting mechanisms, helplines, and adequate protection and support services across the EU and beyond,” the EU Ambassador to Serbia stated.

The Swedish Embassy in Serbia has been actively participating in the campaign for five consecutive years. This year’s exhibition aims to amplify male voices in the fight against gender-based violence and to inspire younger generations to take an active role in building a society grounded in equality and respect.

“These photographs convey a message of commitment — they tell the stories of men who stand against violence and advocate for a safer and fairer world. Gender-based violence is not just a women’s issue; it is a societal problem that requires collective action. Today, we are bringing to the forefront a perspective that is often overlooked — the role of men in driving change,” said the Swedish Ambassador to Serbia, Charlotte Samelin.

Unfortunately, violence against women and girls remains one of the most widespread human rights violations worldwide.

UNITE: Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls” is the theme of this year’s 16 Days of Activism campaign, which begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, and concludes on 10 December, International Human Rights Day.
