The Delegation of the European Union rebuts as “false news” speculation that the “Železara Smederevo” steel plant is affected by the European Commission’s decision of 27 January to introduce anti-dumping duties on China’s steel products. This is not the case.

This decision has no impact on the import of Serbian steel in the EU. It is limited to exports from China and Taiwan of stainless steel tube and pipe butt-welding fittings. However, an investigation could be initiated if they attempt trans-ship these product to sell them in the EU as produced in Serbia.

This decision is also completely unrelated to the on-going anti-dumping investigation on steel imports from Brazil, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia and Iran. This separate investigation concerns a different set of products: hot rolled flat products of iron, non-alloy or other alloy steel.
