Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the Commission, will host Western Balkans leaders for an informal gathering in Brussels on Wednesday, 19 December. Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn will also participate.
At the meeting they will discuss current developments in the region, taking stock of the work done in 2018 and the outlook for the coming year. In 2018 a clear European Union perspective, based on merits and achievements, was reaffirmed for all the partners in the Western Balkans. The Commission adopted the Western Balkans Strategy, signalling an enhanced commitment to the region, and an EU – Western Balkans Summit brought together all Western Balkans partners and all EU Member States for the first time in 15 years.
