By hosting 65 students from Serbia, the Embassy of France has started the “Open Doors” event, during which the EU Member States’ embassies will open their doors to students and high school pupils, brining them closer to countries they represent.

“During the month of May, the EU Delegation to Serbia has for years now organised the ‘Open Europe’ campaign, when a series of events are arranged, such as talks with Serbian citizens who must be engaged in these important debates, since they are future EU citizens,” said Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport on this occasion.

“This year, over the course of May and June, together with the EU Member States’ embassies in Serbia and the support from the EU Info Centre, we launched the ‘Open Doors’ project that will see 13 EU Member States’ embassies opening their doors to young Serbian citizens and talking to them about Europe,” said Davenport, adding that “there is a certain symbolism in the fact that France was the first to open its doors, given that this particular day is known as Schuman Day in the EU.”

Groups of students and high school pupils will have an opportunity to visit the Embassy of the Netherlands on 12 May, Greece Embassy is scheduled to open its doors two days later, whereas the Embassy of Croatia will do the same on 22 May. Hungarian and Bulgarian embassies will be open to visitors on 28 and 29 May, respectively.

Embassy of Belgium will host pupils and students on 5 June, Finish representative office on 10 June, Embassy of Poland will host visitors on 12 June, while Austrian Embassy will do the same on 17 June.
