The Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Sem Fabrizi met today with the President of the Supreme Court of Cassation Dragomir Milojevic.

A press release issued following the meeting said that they discussed cooperation between the Supreme Court of Cassation and the High Judicial Council, on one hand, and the EU Delegation, on the other, and the upcoming constitutional reform.

The discussion was focused on the progress made in previous two years, in particular in the area of backlog reduction and jurisprudence harmonisation, as well as on the main challenges the judicial system is facing and the importance of ensuring adherence to EU standards.

The issues such as the efficiency of courts, access to judicial positions, independence and impartiality, the quality of judicial accountability, political influence on and public perception of the work of courts were also discussed.

The President of the Supreme Court of Cassation Milojevic thanked the EU Delegation Head Ambassador Fabrizi for EU’s contribution to implementation of judicial reform aimed at strengthening the rule of law as the key element of Serbia’s further progress toward the European Union, the statement read.
