Presentation of Europeana.eu web portal, debate on the means in which Erasmus alumni may contribute to society reform and debate “Serbia on EU cultural map” with participation by laureates of European Literature Award Ugljesa Sajtinac and Jelena Lengold will be held Friday, 31 October, at EU’s stand within International Belgrade Book Fair.

Activities at EU’s stand, located in Hall 4, will begin with a visit of 50 librarians from Novi Sad and other cities in Vojvodina. Portal Europeana, a unique digitalised cultural and scientific treasury of Europe, will be presented in Branislav Nusic lounge (Hall 1A). The portal serves as an interface for millions of photos, artefacts, books from the biggest museums, libraries and archives around Europe. Through several projects, Serbian cultural institutions have also contributed to this portal.

Librarians of the Novi Sad City Library, Matica srpska and University Library, whose visit is organised by EU Info Point Novi Sad, will take part in the workshop dedicated to using digital applications for browsing European publications, archive materials and photos, whereas they will also have an opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills regarding the use of EU Bookshop, where one can search European publications by subject, date, edition, author or key words. Besides the Bookshop, librarians will get to know the Europeana application.

Starting from 15:45, the EU’s stand hosts discussion of Erasmus programme alumni with future students on the subject of the means in which Erasmus alumni can contribute to the reform of society. Discussion will be participated in by Belgian Ambassador to Serbia Leo D’Aes who will speak about experience of Belgian universities in support programmes aimed at students in the region.

“Serbia on EU cultural map – What can we offer; what can we gainwith 2014 and 2011 laureates of European Literature Award respectively Ugljesa Sajtinac and Jelena Lengold, and publisher Gojko Bozovic starts at 17:00. During this event we will be tweeting with hash-tag #CultureUp (#KulturaUp).

Apart from publications on EU history and institutions, stand’s visitors will be able to attend the presentation of EU Bookshop, a portal offering publications about the Union in each of the official languages, as well as the portal Europeana, which serves as an interface for millions of photos, documents and digitalised objects showcasing the cultural and scientific heritage of the Old Continent.
