“Little Guardians of Great Rivers” is the slogan of a workshop for children aged 6 to 12, offering our youngest ones a chance to explore the richness of Serbia’s underwater world, develop environmental awareness, and learn how they can contribute to nature protection – all in a fun and interactive environment.

On Friday, 6 June at 11 a.m., Europe House in Belgrade will unveil an entirely new nature-themed corner – the Fish House – a freshwater aquarium showcasing species that live in Serbia’s rivers.

The activities have been carefully designed to spark children’s empathy towards nature, boost their creativity and curiosity, and inspire further learning. An interactive lecture will teach them about the fish species found in our waters, the threats they face from pollution and climate change, and why it is essential to keep rivers clean and full of life. Through this rich and layered experience, children will not only gain knowledge, but also build emotional connections with living beings and learn that even the smallest creatures have a role in nature.

Places are limited, so we kindly ask you to confirm your attendance by registering via the link here.

Programme

  • Official opening of the aquarium with the presence of the EU Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret, who will deliver a short message to the children on the importance of preserving water and river species.

  • Guided presentation and aquarium tour – children will get to see live fish species they may have only encountered in pictures or books.

  • Workshop: “Fish and River Ecosystems of Serbia” – learning through play, Q&A, artistic activities and teamwork.

  • A joint message for the future – all participants will have the chance to leave a comment, thought, or drawing on the “wall of impressions”, which will remain at Europe House as a reminder of their dedication to nature.

This event is organised by Europe House in Belgrade, in cooperation with the NGO Aquaria Life (known for the Public Aquarium and Tropicarium in Belgrade), and with the support of the EU for the Green Agenda project, which aims to help Serbia effectively engage in the green transition and biodiversity protection.

Children are the future leaders, scientists, artists, and decision-makers. Through workshops like this, they not only learn about nature – they learn how to become responsible citizens, aware of their impact on the world around them. These are exactly the kinds of values and knowledge the European Union strives to instil in young generations, as part of its broader vision of a sustainable, united, and green Europe.

So bring your little ones and let them take part in this unique underwater adventure, where learning comes with smiles, and caring for nature becomes a daily habit.
