During the meeting with Prime Minister Ana Brnabic in Belgrade, European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia David McAllister stated his appreciation of the Serbian progress on its way to the European integration, announced the Prime Minister’s Office.
McAllister, who leads the EP Committee of Foreign Affairs Delegation says that the process of adopting the new media strategy has been inclusive and transparent, as well as that it represents an example which is to be followed in the future, the press release said.
During the discussion with the EP Parliament Delegation, Brnabic stated that the Government will be more than committed to modernization of the country and that it will implement the necessary reforms in order to achieve the planned goals.
As stated in the release, EP Delegation members were interested in the implemented reforms in the field of economics, public administration, and governance and rule of law.
The Prime Minister has informed the guests about the positive economic indicators which have been recorded in Serbia in the past period, as well as about the results accomplished in the process of public administration reform and the progress that Serbia has made in negotiation process with the European Union.
Fiscal stabilisation has been established, macroeconomic stability has been accomplished, GDP rate increase has been recorded and unemployment has been reduced, stated the Prime Minister and reminded that Serbia has opened 16 chapters in EU negotiations so far.
Speaking about chapters 23 and 24, Minister of Justice Nela Kuburovic told McAllister that, during the past year and a half, Serbia held a public dispute on the amendments on the Serbian Constitution for the first time and adopted around 70% of the proposals of the experts, and thus accepted the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
Separately, the EP Delegation led by McAllister had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic and Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic. A press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted McAllister as saying that he was strongly in favour of suspending taxes on goods from Serbia. McAllister expressed his hope that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina would continue.
