President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Ambassador Sem Fabrizi. He was accompanied with the Head of EIB representation office for the Western Balkans, Mr. Alessandro Bragonzi, to discuss infrastructure projects in Serbia.
At the meeting, President Vučić and Ambassador Fabrizi talked about projects in the area of road, railway and gas infrastructure, which are being funded by the European Union, with support by the European Investment Bank.
The two interlocutors assessed positively the results achieved so far in the area of transport and gas infrastructures. They discussed in particular: the launch of a tender for execution of works on the first section of the Peace Highway (Niš-Pločnik) – the construction of which is expected to start during this summer, and the selection of the work contractor for the gas interconnector Serbia – Bulgaria by September.
The two interlocutors also emphasised in particular the importance of constructing the strategic railway line Belgrade – Niš – Preševo, a core extended Trans European Transport Network (TEN-T).
Ambassador Fabrizi recalled that with the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans, the European Union has made available 9 billion euros of non-refundable grants for the Western Balkans region for investment flagships in the key areas of transport, energy, green and digital transition, to create sustainable growth and jobs.
