High Representative of European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini told press in Brussels about her talks with Prime Ministers of Serbia and Croatia Aleksandar Vucic and Zoran Milanovic and said that she expected border between the two countries to be open.
“I spoke today with the two Prime Ministers, of both Serbia and Croatia, with one on the phone and the other one in person, just before coming here, urging them to continue working, in particular the Croatian Prime Minister, on constructive approach.
Closing borders is never solution and in that part of our continent it might bring back difficult feelings and emotions that we don’t need in this moment. We need to work together, as Europeans, Member States and non-Member States, especially in the Western Balkans to manage the difficult refugee flow and migration phenomenon together, in partnership. So I hope that the border can be open again, also because of the management of trade and in any case, the management of the refugee flow. So I hope that my talks today and wisdom can bring us to all to a common work to manage a common problem that the whole region, EU and non-EU, is facing today. We need common solutions and common work,” Mogherini said ahead of extraordinary EU Summit focused on tackling refugee crisis.
