Representatives of the state leadership, various institutions, civil society and the diplomatic corps attended the official celebration of Europe Day, which was held in the Assembly of the City of Belgrade.
The Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi, said that the pandemic did not shift the focus of the EU from the region of the Western Balkans, and that the EU stands firmly on the fact that Serbia’s future is in the EU.
“Robert Schuman’s proposal was simple, but also revolutionary, through cooperation and pooling of resources, nations can achieve peace and solidarity and ensure prosperity. In the past seven decades, we have fulfilled that ambition, we have become a united, prosperous continent with lasting peace and democratic societies in which people can live with dignity,” Ambassador Fabrizi said.
He pointed out that the EU is the leader of global changes and that the Union is based on several basic ideas that replace confrontation with cooperation, and those are inclusiveness and solidarity that can overcome inequality.
Ambassador Fabrizi pointed out that Serbia, together with the EU, was in solidarity in various crises and called for joint construction of the future in which, as he said, we should count on each other.

Congratulating everyone in Serbia and the EU on Europe Day, President Vučić reminded that May 9, the day when the great victory of freedom is celebrated, was won with huge sacrifices.
President Vučić also pointed out that the EU is undoubtedly the largest donor, investor, and by far the most important trade partner of Serbia, and reminded that about two thirds of all trade and even more service activities are related to the EU, and that these are facts, whether someone likes it or not. . He pointed out that seven years ago, when he became the Prime Minister, three times fewer people were employed in companies that came from EU countries than today.
President Vučić and Ambassador Fabrizi uncovered the art installation “Growth”, inspired by European values of dignity, democracy, equality, rule of law and solidarity, and its environmental aspect is reflected in the use of biodegradable materials and a positive impact on the immediate environment. The installation, one of the three winning works in the competition on the occasion of Europe Day, is the work of a team of nine students from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade.
